Embracing Change: A Week of Goals, Growth, and Inspiration

As we enjoy the last day of July, it's the perfect time to talk about the next step in our reinvention journey: creating short-term goals. This week has been a mix of setting intentions, relishing simple joys, and capturing the beauty around us. I'm excited to share this journey with you and highlight some of the fantastic content we've curated for you.

Setting the Stage for Success: Short-Term Goals

Setting short-term goals is empowering. They give us direction and the small victories we need to stay motivated. Whether taking daily walks, dedicating time to a hobby, or starting a new project, these goals are the building blocks of our long-term dreams. In this week’s feature article, I dive into how to set practical short-term goals that can transform your life one step at a time.

Here is a link to the step two reinvention worksheet. As we continue exploring the theme of reinvention, I encourage you to reflect on your short-term goals. What small steps can you take today to move closer to your dreams? Embrace the process, celebrate your progress, and know that each step brings you closer to a fulfilling and vibrant life. I am doing the worksheets with you and will share them in our Facebook group.

Rediscovering Nature's Wonders

Summer is in full swing, and it's the perfect time to reconnect with nature. This week, I ventured out with my camera, capturing the stunning beauty of the world around us. From vibrant flowers to colorful birds, these snapshots remind us of the magic in our everyday surroundings. I hope these images inspire you to step outside and enjoy the beauty around you.

I Want to Go to Summer Camp

Who says summer camps are just for kids? Recently, I told friends I wanted to go to summer camp. While it may not be in this year’s cards, this article will give you ideas on how to create a summer camp experience for you and your friends. I offer both my fantasy adult summer camp experience and some realistic, budget-friendly ideas for recreated summer camp experiences with friends. I am inviting friends over soon to enjoy our neighborhood pool and have popsicles and frosty drinks.

A Taste of Comfort: Chicken Pot Pie

I’ve returned to the kitchen to cook some classic favorites, as so many of my family and friends have needed extra care and comfort lately. This week’s culinary highlight is a comforting chicken pot pie. It's a dish that warms the soul, no matter the season. Check out the full recipe on our website and enjoy this timeless comfort food with your family and friends.

A DMV Adventure: The Power of Kindness

Speaking of setting goals and getting things done, I’ve been catching up on many tasks on the back burner. This week, I headed to the DMV to get my Real ID. In typical fashion, I had more documentation than needed! Proudly armed with every required document, I double-checked my appointment time, did my hair and makeup, and dressed nicely for my new photo. I left the house early and drove 30 minutes to the office, only to find an almost empty parking lot.

As it turned out, the global IT crisis had hit the DMV. Their computer system was down. The man in front of me threw a major fit, ranting about waiting another 30 days for his wife’s travel documents. After speaking with a supervisor, he and his wife quietly left.

I asked the receptionist if all my documents were in order. She picked four from my packet of ten. Then, I asked what I should do next: rebook online. She said, “You were so nice and helpful; here’s my name. Be here at 11:00 am next Monday, come to counter six, and I will process you immediately.” The moral of the story? It pays to be nice and calm. Front-line workers take a lot of flak; the nicer you are, the better the chance of getting help.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Your stories and experiences continue to inspire me, and I’m grateful for our shared connection. Here’s to a week of setting goals, appreciating nature’s beauty, and finding joy in the little things.

Until next time,
Mary

Creating Short-Term Goals to Reach Your Life Goals

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."

- George Bernard Shaw

This quote is a favorite of mine. I remind myself daily that I’m responsible for my life and its direction. Growing up, we often heard we had to find ourselves. I always thought, "I didn’t realize I was lost." This quote reminds me daily that I must create the life I want. I have to do the work, make the decisions, and take responsibility for my successes and failures.

I Want to Go to Summer Camp

I jokingly (semi) told a friend the other day that I wish I could go to rehab for a week or summer camp. Everything is done for you; you have few responsibilities. You can’t use electronic devices, but you have arts and crafts, meditation, and yoga and are surrounded by like-minded people.

My Guardian Angel, Genoa Italy photo by Mary Harvey Gurley Twelve Years Sober: The Truth No One Wants to Hear Twelve years ago today, I hit rock bottom. Not the kind of "rock bottom" that comes with a warning label or some dramatic movie moment where you suddenly realize it’s time to change. No, mine was a slow, painful unraveling until one day—February 4th—I found myself with no more excuses. No more rationalizing. No more pretending I was in control. If I hadn’t hit bottom that day, I’d be...
